Give daily doses of x2 brewers Yeast tablets and x1 garlic pearl to each dog, this is the best flea, tick and intestinal worm preventor I know.
20 years living on a sheep farm, large wooded area ( wildlife: foxes, hedgehogs etc) 10 dogs and only 1 had a tick on her two days after she had been in the vets for a week and had not had the Brewers Yeast and garlic during that time.

You can grow the garlic which would make this even cheaper, then put the whole bulb in its skin into the oven, bake for 15 mins. This produces soft odour free garlic which can be frozen, I put it in ice cube trays............it also great for garlic bread!

Neem oil is supposed to be very good although I have never needed to try it..........why change what works?

If they have nothing to feed on, they soon die off because they can't complete their breeding cycle.

I hear plain Dawn dish detergent helps kill the adult fleas, but I'm sure it doesn't do much for the eggs. I use Advantage, it works great.

Here's some to help.

Shampoo - add one drop of either lemongrass and citronella essential oil to the shampoo (enough shampoo for one wash)

Take an old piece of material (towelling is good) and soak it in a solution of warm water (one pint) and 4 drops of cedarwood or pine essential oil and rub dog all over with cloth.

Soak a material collar in a solution of -

1 drop cedarwood
1 drop lavender
1 drop citronella
1 drop thyme

mix this with a little olive oil or almond oil.

Put collar on dog to wear as normal.

These are all for keeping ticks and fleas at bay. Once the dog actually has ticks, try this -

30mls of olive oil mixed with 10mls of lavender and 10 mls of st johns wort (this is hard to get hold of so if not available use tea tree) massage this blend over ticks and they should drop off within about 10 mins. Catch the little blighters and burn 'em!!! LOL!! This can also be used as a preventative measure, massaging on the dog regularly.

ADD-ON.
Found another one.

These are pure essential oils keep them away from dogs they will last for ages

21 drops of Geranium
14 drops of Lavender
21 drops of Eucalyptus
14 drops of Tea Tree

Mix in a plant sprayer with 250-300 mils of warm water and spray your dog while you groom not only will he/she smell wonderful but the insects hate it

Salt dehydrates fleas killing them, however if ingested by the animals, they can also get pretty dehydrated. So while it can work, you may not want to use it. Diatomaceous Earth can be purchased in bulk. This also kills fleas. Dawn dish soap kills fleas fairly quickly. The animals can be bathed in this, and a mixture of dawn soap and water can be sprayed around the area the dogs are in to kill them.

Borax works, and a very small amount of garlic added to their water also works to repel fleas. Garlic isn't good for dogs, but in small quantities it will be fine and will repel the pests. Google home remedies for fleas and ticks and you'll come up with quite a few.

aside from some of the other suggestions, you can also get food-grade diatamaceaus earth (not the pool-grade stuff) to put around your yard, this will help to treat your lawn for these pests.. you can get it where lawn and garden supplies are sold.

Also, you can get larger avtangage or frontline to split up between your dogs.. http://www.lisaviolet.com/cathouse/advantage.html

Apple cider vinegar helps. You can add drops in their drinking water & spray with diluted or pour on diluted solution of half acv & half water to help repel. It helps with mosquitoes & other flying bugs like flies & gnats. Here is a link that explains & adds other uses for acv.
